St. Lucie gets out hit but put up three runs to beat the Birds tonight. Palm Beach had eight hits in the game but left nine on base. They where 0-7 with runners in scoring position so the opportunity was there, but the Cardinals could not get the big hit they needed.
The Mets struck quick in the first inning. Francisco Pena singled on a fly ball to right fielder Shane Peterson that scored Hector Pellot and Kirk Nieuwenhuis. The runners scored due to a Fielding error by the Cards right fielder. In the fourth inning, St. Lucie increased their lead on a fielder's choice. First baseman, Matthew Arburr, scooped up a ground ball and went home to catch the runner on third both runners were safe.
The Cardinals and Mets continue the series tomorrow at 6:35 pm. Scott Gorgen will take the mound for Palm Beach against Brad Holt in game two of the three game series.
