Mets rally in the 9th, defeat Cardinals 5-3
June 21, 2013 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, FL- Trailing 3-2 heading into the top of the 9th, Mets' left fielder,Dustin Lawley, sent a 1-2 pitch sailing over the left field wall. Tying the game and fueling a 3-run 9th that would prove to be enough for the Mets to capture their 6th straight victory.
Cardinals' All-Star reliever, Ronnie Shaban, was tagged for his first blown-save of the season and moves to 1-3 on the year. St. Lucie got to Shaban for 3 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks in 1 and 1/3 innings pitched.
Palm Beach was able to capitalize early on a pair of solo home runs in the first and second innings from Colin Walsh and Starlin Rodriguez. Walsh's homer came in impressive fashion as he led off the bottom of the first, sending Angel Cuan's second pitch of the game deep over the left field wall.
Zach Petrick made his first starting appearance of the 2013 season for the Cardinals and did not disappoint. The right-hander tossed 4 innings (season high) while giving up one run (unearned) on four hits and an error.
Offensively the Cardinals have out-hit the Mets in both games of the series despite going winless in the two games. Danny Stienstra led the team with a 3-4 night, including a pair of doubles.
Tomorrow will mark the Advanced-A debut for Cardinals' top prospect Tyrell Jenkins while the Mets are set to throw Noah Syndergaard. Syndergaard is making his first appearance since being named the winning pitcher of the 2013 All-Star game last Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. at Roger Dean Stadium.
