
Hammerheads Take Bite out of Miracle in 8-3 Win

FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 21, 2013) - The Fort Myers Miracle lost, 8-3, to the Jupiter Hammerheads on Friday night at Hammond Stadium.
Leading 3-2, Miracle starter Tyler Duffey got roughed up in the top of the sixth inning. The Jupiter lineup scored four runs on four hits, but were aided by a crucial Miracle error. With one out and runners at first and second, Duffey was able to get a ground ball to the left side out of Josh Adams. Miracle third baseman Stephen Wickens fielded the ball, but threw wide of the second base bag which allowed a run to score.
The next hitter, Alfredo Lopez, hit a two-run single through an infield playing on a 1-0 pitch. Brent Keys followed with a an RBI single into left field and pushed the Hammerheads lead to 5-3.
Jupiter added insurance runs in the seventh and ninth both touching home as a result of Miracle errors. The Hammerhead bullpen allowed just one hit and one walk over the final six innings.
Fort Myers took an early 3-1 lead in the third inning. In a tie game, Mike Kvasnicka tripled off the left field wall on the first pitch from Hammerheads' starter Justin Nicolino. Kvasnicka plated two runs with his first triple of the season.
Kennys Vargas went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Duffey (0-2) lasted 5.1 innings and gave up six runs, five earned, on nine hits with a pair of walks and five strikeouts. Pete Andrelczyk (1-0) was the winning pitcher for the Hammerheads with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
The Miracle (46-23, 1-1) finish the series with Jupiter (37-33, 1-1) on Saturday evening at 6:05 p.m. The first 500 kids 12 & under to enter the gates will be given a youth t-shirt courtesy of CenturyLink.
