St. Lucie Mets News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Four St. Lucie Mets have been voted to the 2016 Florida State League South Division All Star Team.

Short stop Amed Rosario, outfielder Wuilmer Becerra, catcher Tomas Nido and left-handed reliever Alberto Baldonado have been selected to represent the Mets. Baldonado was promoted to Double-A Binghamton two weeks ago and will not participate in the festivities.

The 55th FSL All Star Game will be played Saturday, June 18 at Fort Myers.

Rosario is in the top 10 in the FSL in several offensive categories through 53 games, including batting average (.298- 8th), RBI (29- 5th), triples (six- 2nd), hits (61- 2nd) and total bases (89- 4th). Rosario, who just 20 years old, is the Mets No. 2 ranked prospect according to Baseball America. He played with St. Lucie last year as the youngest play in the FSL.

This is the second All Star selection for Rosario. He was a New York-Penn League All Star while with the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2014. Rosario was signed by the Mets as an international free agent in 2012.

Becerra, a Venezuelan who is in his first year with St. Lucie, has been one of the FSL's top hitters all season. He led the league in hitting for a long stretch and is now second with a .338 batting average entering Friday's game.

This is Becerra's third All Star selection. He was a postseason All Star in the South Atlantic League in 2015 and was an Appalachian League All Star in 2014 with Kingsport.

Becerra was one of the final pieces of the 2012 trade that sent Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Noah Syndergaard and Travis d'Arnaud. At the time of the trade Becerra had only played in 11 GCL games for the Blue Jay.

Nido is making back-to-back midseason All Star appearances after being voted to the South Atlantic League All Star team in 2015. Nido is in his first season with St. Lucie and fifth season with the Mets organization.

Nido enters Friday's game tied for third in the FSL with 13 doubles. He is batting .290 in 38 games. As the Mets primary catcher, Nido has caught 44 percent of would-be base stealers.

Baldonado pitched in 13 games with St. Lucie before his promotion. He allowed only two earned runs in 19.1 innings (0.93 ERA). He walked eight and struck out 21.

The Fort Myers Miracle and Clearwater Threshers lead the way with seven selections each. The South will be manager by Charlotte's Michael Johns, who led the Stone Crabs to their first championship last year. Daytona's Eli Marrero will manage the North.

With two weeks left before the game, promotions and injuries around the league could potentially lead to more Mets being added to the South squad. Visit www.stluciemets.com for updates.
