Mets Hold Down SeaWolves Bats on Monday Night

The SeaWolves could not get the bats going on Monday night at NYSEG Stadium as they dropped the opener of a three-game series to the Binghamton Mets 8-0.

The Mets struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Ramon Garcia. Pedro Zapata led off and tripled. With one out, Juan Lagares slammed his first home run of the season over the wall in left for a 2-0 Binghamton lead. With two outs, Eric Campbell and Jefry Marte connected on back-to-back doubles making it 3-0. Oswaldo Navarro singled home Marte making it 4-0.

In the fifth with one out, Allan Dykstra connected on an opposite-field home run off of reliever Kelvin De La Cruz to make it 5-0 Mets.

The Mets capped off the scoring in the seventh against reliever Zach Samuels. Matt Den Dekker tripled with one out. Lagares and Dykstra followed with back-to-back walks. Campbell walked with the bases loaded to put Binghamton head 6-0. Marte then singled home Larages and Navarro hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Dykstra for an 8-0 Mets edge.

Three Binghamton pitchers, Greg Peavey, Kevin Mulvey and Armando Rodriguez held the SeaWolves scoreless for the first time this season as they combined on a four-hit shutout.

Garcia (0-1) allowed four runs on seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts in three innings of work.

Peavey (1-0) allowed two hits with no walks and five strikeouts in 5.2 innings in the winning effort.

The SeaWolves and Mets meet in the middle game of the series on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium.6:35 First Pitch. RHP James Avery takes the mound for Erie against LHP Mark Cohoon.
