Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets pounded out eleven hits, including seven for extra bases, and Greg Peavey allowed just one hit in his Double-A debut in an 8-0 win over the Erie SeaWolves tonight at NYSEG Stadium.
The attack started immediately and didn't stop until every B-Mets player had a hit. After Peavey retired the side in order in the first, Pedro Zapata led off the bottom of the inning with a triple against Erie starter Ramon Garcia.
Juan Lagares gave the B-Mets the early lead by launching his first home run of the season over the left field fence. Lagares had just two home runs with Binghamton last year.
The offensive push did not end there. Eric Campbell, celebrating his 25thbirthday, shot a double to right-centerfield and Jefry Marte brought him home with a two-bagger to left. Oswaldo Navarro capped the inning with an RBI single to right. By the time the dust settled, the B-Mets held a commanding 4-0 lead.
It was all the offense Peavey needed. The right-hander from Vancouver, Washington worked around three errors to post 5.2 scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit, struck out five and issued no walks.
He capped his night by striking out Brandon Douglas and Tony Plagman in the sixth before getting lifted in place of Kevin Mulvey.
The B-Mets added to their lead in the fifth on an opposite-field home run from Allan Dykstra, his first of the season. Zach Samuels allowed three runs on two hits and three walks in the seventh.
The B-Mets pen took it the rest of the way. Mulvey allowed one hit and walked two over 2.1 scoreless frames and Armando Rodriguez tossed a scoreless ninth to secure Binghamton's first shutout win of the year. Over the last 24 innings, the B-Mets pitching staff has allowed just one run. Peavey earned the win, while Garcia was saddled with the loss.
The B-Mets (2-2) continue their series against the SeaWolves tomorrow night at 6:35 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon makes his first B-Mets start of the season against RHP James Avery. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:20 PM.
