Mets Crush Miracle 15-9

April 19, 2014 - Florida State League (FSL) - St. Lucie Mets News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets pounded out 19 hits and clobbered the Fort Myers Miracle 15-9 at Hammond Stadium on Friday night.

The Mets erased a 4-0 first-inning deficit en route to their fifth win over the Miracle in five games. T.J. Rivera and Brandon Nimmo both had four-hit games and everyone in the Mets lineup scored a run.

Travis Harrison excited the home crowd with a three-run homer in the first to put the Miracle up 4-0 in the first, but the Miracle fans were silenced shortly after when Maikis De La Cruz hit a three-run homer to the same spot in the left field berm in the second to make it 4-3. T.J. Rivera tied the game with an RBI single three batters later.

The Mets made it a seven-run second inning when Cam Maron followed Aderlin Rodriguez's two-run double with a run scoring single.

The Miracle tied the game 7-7 against Michael Fulmer in the bottom of the second, but the Mets quickly added two runs in the third on RBI base hits by Nimmo and Rivera.

Fort Myers inched closer with a sac fly in the third that made it 9-8, but reliever Seth Lugo settled the Mets down on the mound. Lugo pitched five innings of three-hit relief, allowing just one run.

Meanwhile, the Mets scored three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to pull away. In the fifth, Nimmo laced and RBI triple, Rivera notched his third RBI single and Rodriguez collected his third RBI with a single to make it 12-8.

Dilson Herrera extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a run-scoring single in the sixth. Brandon Allen blasted a two-run double later in the frame to make it 15-8.

Lugo earned the win while Steven Gruver took the loss. Gruver allowed five runs on seven hits in just 2 2/3 innings.

With his four hits, Rivera upped his batting average to .411 which is the best in the Florida State League. Brandon Nimmo is not far behind in second with a .407 average after his four-hit night.

The Mets (9-6) will go for the sweep of the Miracle (8-7) on Saturday at Hammond Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Join the Voice the Mets Adam MacDonald for the broadcast on www.stluciemets.com beginning at 5:45 p.m.
