Mets, Cessa Impress in 9-1 Win over Cards

JUPITER, Fla. (May 9, 2014) - The St. Lucie Mets put together one of their most impressive games of the season in all three phases, crushing the Palm Beach Cardinals 9-1 on Friday at Roger Dean Stadium.
Luis Cessa tossed a gem for the Mets. The right hander from Mexico allowed just one run on four hits in eight innings. The eight innings is the most pitched by a Mets starter this season. He only threw 87 pitches.
At the plate, the Mets pounded out 19 hits, one shy of their season high.
Defensively, St. Lucie didn't make an error and turned three double plays, including a nifty one started by Phillip Evans in the second when he dove for a ball over the second base bag and tossed the ball with his glove to second from his stomach.
The top three batters in the Mets order - Dilson Herrera, Brandon Nimmo and T.J. Rivera - each had three hits. The trio hit back-to-back-to-back run scoring singles in the second off of Kyle Helisek to open up a 4-0 lead.
Herrera and Evans extended the lead to 6-1 with sac flies in the fourth and fifth.
Danny Miranda, Jr., surrendered three runs and five hits in the ninth. Cam Maron, Eudy Pina and Evans each had an RBI single in the frame.
Paul Sewald worked around a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth to close out the ball game.
Cessa's one blemish came in the fourth. Nick Martini doubled with one out and moved to third on a wild pitch. He came home on David Washington's sac fly..
Everyone in the Mets lineup collected at least one hit. Evans joined Herrera, Nimmo and Rivera with a three-hit game. Maron and Pina had two hits apiece.
The Mets (20-15) have won two in a row and will go for the series victory over the Cardinals (16-19) on Saturday at 6:35 p.m.
