Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

Jupiter, FL - Luis Cessa limited the Palm Beach Cardinals to four hits over eight innings, and the St. Lucie Mets had four sluggers with three hits in a 9-1 victory on Friday night at Roger Dean Stadium. The Mets lead the current series 2-1 heading into Saturday's finale.

Cessa (2-3) allowed two hits to start the game but only surrendered two more hits over his final seven frames. The St. Lucie right-hander walked one and struck out two during the game.

The Mets (20-15) jumped out to a 5-0 lead on Palm Beach starter Kyle Helisek and finished with nine runs on 19 hits - the most hits allowed by the Cardinals this year.

Dilson Herrera, Brandon Nimmo, T.J. Rivera, and Phillip Evans each had three hits and combined for seven RBI and five runs to lead the St. Lucie offensive outburst.

The Cardinals (16-19) broke through in the fourth inning for their lone run. Nick Martini doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch before David Washington drove him home on a sacrifice fly to center. The Birds wouldn't get any closer than the 5-1 margin.

Kyle Helisek (1-2) allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 hits over four innings of work for Palm Beach. He struck out one in the loss.

All five of the Cardinals' hits came from the top third of the order. Charlie Tilson led the way at the plate with a three hit night, while Bruce Caldwell and Martini accounted for the other two hits.

The Cardinals and Mets will play the final game of the four-game series on Saturday night at Roger Dean Stadium. LH Marco Gonzales (2-1, 1.42) will start for Palm Beach against RH Matt Koch (3-0, 3.58) for St. Lucie.

Saturday night will also be Boot, Scoot and Baseball Night - the second of the 'Great 8' promotional nights this season at Roger Dean Stadium. Bring the whole family out for a night of country fun! First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with gates opening at 5:30.
