Mets, Cardinals Finish 1-1 After Rain Cancels Game

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets and Palm Beach Cardinals had their game cancelled by unplayable field conditions with the score tied 1-1 in the middle of the fifth inning on Thursday.
After rain soaked First Data Field throughout the afternoon and early evening, the Mets and Cardinals finally got their series finale started at 8:01 p.m.
The contest was tied 1-1 when a rain cell rendered the playing surface unplayable after the top of the fifth.
Since the teams do not play again this season the game will not be completed.
The Mets had a chance to take a lead in the third inning. Wagner Lagrange hit a double with no outs to plate Hansel Moreno. That tied the game 1-1. Unfortunately for the Mets they could not get Lagrange home to take the lead.
The Cardinals scored their only run in the top of the first on a sac fly by Dennis Ortega that brought in Scott Hurst, who opened the game with a double.
Mets starter Jaison Vilera settled down after the double and long sac fly. He pitched all five innings and gave up just three hits and the one run.
Ludwin Jimenez, a 17-year-old, was called up from the GCL Cardinals to make the start for Palm Beach. He held his own, limiting the Mets to two hits and one run over four innings.
Lagrange had both of the Mets' hits.
Since the contest was not official none of the statistics from the game will count.
The Mets (27-15, 59-49) begin a three-game road trip at the Daytona Tortugas on Friday. First pitch at Jackie Robinson Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
