Mets Beat Flying Tigers 4-2 on Wild Pitch

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets beat the Lakeland Flying Tigers 4-3 in 10 innings on a walk-off wild pitch at First Data Field on Tuesday.

Mets catcher Nick Meyer stole third base as Lakeland pitcher Wladimir Pinto struck out Jacob Zanon for the second out of the bottom of the 10th. Meyer raced home in the ensuing at bat when Pinto spiked a pitch to Mitch Ghelfi that skipped away towards the Mets dugout.

The victory complete a comeback for the Mets, who trailed 3-1 late in the contest. Ghelfi turned the game around when he launched a game-tying home run off of Tom de Blok with two outs in the bottom of the eighth.

Joe Cavallaro pitched a scoreless top of the 10th to get the win.

Mets starter Dedniel Nunez limited the Flying Tigers to one run over five solid innings. He scattered four hits, walked two and struck out five.

Lakeland scored its only run against Nunez in the second inning on a Chad Sedio sac fly.

The Mets tied the game 1-1 in the third inning when Jacob Zanon lifted a sac fly.

Kody Clemens gave the Flying Tigers a 2-1 advantage when he led off the sixth inning with a home run off Marcel Renteria. The Flying Tigers scored another run later in the inning on a two-out error to go up 3-1.

Ghelfi tied the game with his first home run of the season when he hit one to the opposite field on a 3-1 pitch.

Conner O'Neil pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth to help the Mets get to extra innings.

The Mets (2-0, 34-34) and Flying Tigers (0-2, 29-38) conclude their series at First Data Field on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
