DAYTONA BEACH, FL: RHP Nolan Kingham tripped up Daytona Tortugas hitters all night long, recording the Florida Fire Frogs seventh shutout of the season, his Minor-league leading third, in a 4-0 triumph on Tuesday evening at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
With the win, the Fire Frogs ended a season-long eight-game losing streak and have the chance to win their first set in the last four.
Kingham (4-5) allowed just five base runners, scattering three hits, a walk, a hit batsman, and recorded seven strikeouts over nine innings. He faced 31 batters and threw 91 pitches, 66 of which were for strikes.
Florida backed up Kingham with early runs. After a Riley Delgado knock, Trey Harris smacked his first home run at the Advanced-A level off LHP Wennington Romero over the left-field fence for a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Drew Lugbauer slammed a 409-foot blast to dead center for his second in as many nights, his seventh of the season, to propel the Fire Frogs lead to 3-0.
Delgado reached base all five times, going 4-4 with a double and he was also struck by a pitch while notching his first four-hit effort of the season. Lugbauer got on three times and earned his second straight multi-knock game.
Romero (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season for the Tortugas, giving up seven hits and four runs with seven punchouts over five frames.
The Fire Frogs got some insurance in the fourth. Kevin Josephina's double gave Jordan Rodgers an opportunity to drive him in. Rodgers obliged with two outs, sending a single through the left side for a 4-0 Florida advantage.
Rodgers and Josephina both went 2-4, respectively.
The Fire Frogs offense collected 13 hits or more in a contest for the ninth time this season, moving their record to 6-3 in such games.
RHP John Ghyzel and RHP Dauri Moreta kept Daytona within striking distance, each throwing two innings of three-hit baseball while blanking the Frogs.
Reds #4 prospect Jonathan India went 2-3 with a double.
NEXT UP: Florida guns for a series victory in Wednesday morning's rubber match at the Jack. LHP Philip Pfeifer (1-3, 4.35) goes at 10:35 a.m. versus Daytona's RHP Mac Sceroler (3-1, 3.89).
