New York Red Bulls News Release
SECAUCUS, NJ (Friday, March 11, 2005) The MetroStars announced today that midfielder/forward Youri Djorkaeff will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a left hamstring strain. The injury occurred last week while the team was training in Ecuador.
This is an unfortunate setback, but it is important to remember that it is only a strained hamstring, said MetroStars President and General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. We are keeping him back for some rehab and fitness work, and we expect that he will be ready to go soon.
Its disappointing to Youri and the team that we have suffered a minor setback in our preparation for the season, said MetroStars Head Coach Bob Bradley. Nonetheless, we are confident that we will have Youri ready to go as quickly as possible.
The MetroStars depart on their second international preseason trip of 2005 on Sunday when they head to Port of Spain, Trinidad. The team will be there for six days, and will play two matches during that time: Jabloteh on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. ET, and W Connection on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. ET. Djorkaeff will not make this trip as he will remain in the Tri-State area to rehab.
