Up Next, real salt lake: The Metros will travel west to Utah to take on Real Salt Lake on Monday, July 4 for their second meeting of the season. The two teams met earlier this year at Giants Stadium where they played to a 0-0 tie. (TV: None, Spanish Radio: WADO 1280 AM). After the Metros travel to Salt Lake, they will head back home to take on the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, July 9.
Tickets are available for all MetroStars home games at the Continental Airlines Arena box office and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets will also be available through Ticketmaster by phone for callers in New Jersey (201-507-8900), New York (212-307-7171), and for Spanish-speaking customers throughout New York and New Jersey (212-307-4757).
new england Recap: The Metros lost to MLS leading New England on Saturday, June 25 by a score of 4-2. The team had a 2-1 lead going into the final 18 minutes of the game, but New England scored three unanswered goals to get the come from behind win. Youri Djorkaeff and Sergio Galvan Rey scored goals for the Metros.
GAVEN RETURNS TO METROSTARS: After spending almost four weeks in Amsterdam with the United States U-20 National team, Eddie Gaven returned for the MetroStars June 25 game at New England. The national team won their group, but lost 3-0 in the round of sixteen to Italy.
Last weekend Gaven came on as a sub in the 65th minute for Mike Magee and tallied an assist on Sergio Galvan Rey's goal in the 69th minute.
LEITCH GETS FIRST ASSIST OF SEASON: Metrostars defender and team "Ironman" Chris Leitch tallied his first assist of the season on June 25 at New England on Sergio Galvan Rey's goal. Leitch's assist came on a throw in, only the second of its kind in Major League Soccer this season.
QUICKEST GOAL (AGAINST) IN METROSTARS HISTORY: New England Revolution's Jose Cancela scored the fastest goal in a MetroStars game when he put one by Zach Wells in the 22nd second of the MetroStars game on June 25. The fastest goal in MLS history came on an 11th second strike, in 2003, by San Jose's Dwayne DeRosario.
RAZOV SIDELINED WITH BURSITIS: After starting his first two games with the MetroStars, forward Ante Razov was sidelined against New England due to bursitis. He will be listed as questionable for the Metros upcoming game against Real Salt Lake on Monday, July 4.
GUEVARA SUSPENDED: MetroStars Captain and midfielder Amado Guevara will be suspended for the Metros game on July 4th at Real Salt Lake. Guevara came into last weeks game at New England sitting on 17 caution points, just four away from a one game suspension. Guevara received a yellow card during that game, which makes his suspension certain.
METROSTARS WAIVE DIALLO AND FLORES: The MetroStars announced on Friday, June 24, that they have waived defender Mamadou Diallo and midfielder Gilberto Flores.
Diallo, 21 of Senegal, was signed by the Metros on May 13, 2005 and has not seen any action.
Flores, 21 of Brazil, was signed by the "Red and Black" on May 31, 2004. He started and saw action in seven games in 2004, and recorded one assist. This season, the defensive midfielder has played in three games, logging a total of 39 minutes.
METROSTARS TO TELEVISE FOUR GAMES IN SPANISH ON FSNY: The MetroStars and the Madison Square Garden (MSG) Network announced on June 17 that in addition to their English broadcasts, they will broadcast four games in Spanish this season on Fox Sports New York.
For the fourth consecutive year, Ernesto Motta and Robert Sierra will handle the Spanish broadcasting (television) duties for the MetroStars. Motta and Sierra have been broadcasting (radio) in Major League Soccer since the league's inception, ten years ago. Recently Motta's role has increased, as for the past three years, he has been the SAP voice for ABC's broadcast of the MLS All-Star Game and MLS Cup.
Metro soccer report: MSG will air the Metro Soccer Report this week on Thursday at 10:30 p.m. ET. The show will also re-run three more times (on Friday at 6:30 p.m., Friday at 11:00 p.m. ET and on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET.)
