Midfielder Tony Donatelli scored a hattrick to pace the host Baltimore Blast to a 9-2 victory over the Mississauga MetroStars in a MASL Eastern Division clash Sunday afternoon at the SECU Arena on the campus of Towson University in Baltimore, MD.
? ?Forward Andrew Hoxie put the hosts ahead just 1:59 into the game when he steered in a pass from Donatelli. Later in the opening quarter, Jonatas Melo, with his 18th of the season, and Donatelli, with his first of the game and 13th on the year, gave Baltimore a 3-0 lead.
? ?The Blast doubled the score in the second quarter as Donatelli hit for two more with a goal by Jeremy Raley sandwiched in between, with all three tallies coming in the span of just over four minutes late in the quarter. Baltimore had a commanding 6-0 lead at halftime.
? ?The MetroStars connected for their first goal of the game in the third quarter as Damion Graham netted his 15th of the season, tapping in a pass from Josip Keran, but just 1:35 later, Vini Dantas scored a power play goal, his team leading 22nd of the season, to give the Blast a 7-1 lead after 45 minutes.
? ?As they did in the third quarter, the MetroStars netted the first goal of the fourth quarter with Darren Chambers scoring his 6th of the season on a pass from Massimo Mirabelli just 13 seconds after the restart. But Hoxie and Dantas each scored their second goals of the game to extend the Blast lead to 9-2, which would be the final result. The Blast outshot the MetroStars 30-24.
? ?With the victory, the playoff-bound Blast completed a season sweep of the MetroStars and improved to 15-6 while Mississauga fell to 4-17. The MetroStars travel to Harrisburg to face another Eastern Division rival, the Heat, at the PA Farm Show Arena next Friday, March 29. Kickoff is 7:35pm (EDT).
