MetroStars Fall to Comets
Published on December 13, 2018 under Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Mississauga MetroStars News Release
The Mississauga MetroStars started strong but could not withstand a furious second quarter comeback by the Kansas City Comets that carried the visitors to a 12-6 victory over the home side in a Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) match at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre Thursday night.
First quarter goals by Sebastian Lopez and Marco Rodriguez, on a penalty shot, staked the home side to a 2-0 lead but a seven-goal outburst in the second quarter, which included a pair of goals from Ignacio "Nacho" Flores, gave the side from Missouri a commanding 7-3 lead at the half.
The two teams traded goals in the third quarter with MetroStars' midfielder Martinho Dumevski netting his third goal of the season, nullifying an earlier strike by the Comets Leo Gibson.
Kansas City opened a two-goal lead early in the fourth quarter through Gibson and Flores before Mo Babouli, with his fifth of the season, narrowed the deficit again. Flores and Gibson connected again late in the quarter with the home side playing with a sixth attacker. MetroStars' David Velastegui's first of the season completed the scoring.
The MetroStars will have a ten-day break in the schedule before travelling to Orlando to face the SeaWolves December 22. The MetroStars' next home match is Sunday, December 30 against the Harrisburg Heat at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre, with kickoff set for 3:05pm (ET).
