Menicci named UHL All-Star

Moline, IL – The United Hockey League has named Quad City Mallards defenseman Tom Menicci to its first team All-Star Team for 2002-03. The team was chosen by UHL head coaches and general managers, as well as members of the media.

Menicci becomes the eighth Mallards selection to the first team UHL All-Star Team, following Jason Ulmer (2000-01), Kevin Kerr (1999-00), Glenn Stewart (1999-00, 1998-99, 1996-97), Brian LaFleur (1998-99), and Sergei Zvyagin (1996-97). Menicci immediately becomes a contender for the UHL Best Defenseman Award, to be announced Apr. 21.

Menicci led all Mallards defensemen this season with a career high 17 goals, a team high 39 assists, 56 points, eight power play goals, and a team high 233 shots on goal. He set a single season franchise record with 75 games played and led the Mallards with 22 power play assists and 30 power play points. Among all UHL defensemen, he ranked third in goals, fifth in points, third in power play goals, and tied for third in shots on goal.

The 6-foot, 195-pound, 31-year-old native of Westford, Mass., is in his first season with the Mallards after playing for Coach Paul Gillis with the New Haven Knights in 2001-02, his only other UHL season. He is in his ninth professional season after a four-year career at St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H.
