Port Huron Flags News Release
Port Huron, MI â The Port Huron Beacons of the United Hockey League (UHL) announce the players given awards for their performance on and off the ice this season. There will be awards given out from In The Crease and Just Hockey Magazine, Beacons Front Office, Beacons Booster Club and the UHL.
First set of awards was given out by In The Crease and Just Hockey Magazine. Each organization polled their selected panel of reporters and combined the results for each of the Minor Professional Leagues.
We had several Beacons honored for very prestigious awards. Brent Gretzky was named for two awards. He was selected as the runner up behind Hugo Belanger from the Adirondack IceHawks for the Best Player in the UHL. Wait until next season when Gretzky has a full healthy season to compete against the best in the league. He was also given the Spirit of the League award. This award is given to the person that personifies the UHL. There was a four-way tie with Hugo Belanger, Howard Cornfield (GM of the Quad City Mallards), Bob Chase (Fort Wayne Play-By-Play Announcer), and Mark Reeds (Head Coach of the Missouri River Otters).
Beacons Defenseman Scott Drevitch was also given several honors. He was selected as the runner-up behind Kelly Perrault of the Fort Wayne Komets for the Defenseman of the Year. He was also voted to the All-Star First Team along with Kelly Perrault as the two Defensemen. Jason Firth was also voted to the First Team along with Hugo Belanger of Adirondack and Dustin Whitecotton of Missouri as the Forwards.
Final Beacon to be given honors by In The Crease and Just Hockey Magazine was Michel Beausoleil. He was selected as the runner up behind Adam Lewis of the Fort Wayne Komets for the 110% award.
