Memphis 901 FC News Release
Memphis, Tenn - Memphis 901 FC defender Graham Smith received USL Championship Team of the Week honors after his breakout performances in the club's two victories last week.
Smith recorded goals in each of Memphis' two wins as the club gained six points in four days to maintain the top spot in the Eastern Conference Standings. The defender helped 901 FC shutout FC Tulsa and Detroit City FC with seven clearances and three interceptions while winning six of eight duels.
"I think the biggest takeaway this past week, the two shutouts is huge," Smith said after the 2-0 victory on Saturday. "As far as the goals, (Aaron) Molloy, he puts in such good balls that, honestly, I feel like I should have more than two goals on the season. When you're on a streak like this, you just try and ride it. It's a cliche but you try to get not too high and not too low. You just try to get better every day."
Smith has started 14 games this season, recording 54 clearances and blocking six shots while intercepting 13 opponent passes.
Receiving Team of the Week honorable mention is Aaron Molloy, who assisted Smith on both of his goals last week off of a set piece. The midfielder ranks in the top 10 in the league with four assists and 27 chances created this season and received Team of the Week honors last week with five chances created in a draw with Hartford Athletic.
Memphis 901 FC will hit the road to face the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday, July 2 at 6:30 p.m. CT.
