At last, the action resumes for RGV FC who are eager to build off their June 18 success where they controlled a formidable Pittsburgh Riverhounds side who were unable to break the defensive wall that the Toros built. Javier Garcia showed out on the night having two saves and a clean sheet in his home turf debut to earn the 1-0 shutout for RGV which spiked their confidence leading into Week 18 of action.
Despite the pause in action due to a weather-related postponement of their originally scheduled June 22 matchup at New Mexico United, the Toros have been grinding extra hard to keep rhythm and build offensive power as they continue to showcase new weapons weekly. Ricky Ruiz was that weapon in Week 16 as his phenomenal volley goal was matched by a laser precise cross from Montenegrin winger, Luka Malesevic.
Blocking the way to glory for RGV on Wednesday night are El Paso Locomotive who are full power ahead after they steam-rolled a young New York Redbulls ll side on June 25th, 5-0. Eric Calvillo earned a target lock after his two-goal performance on the night. The Toros must keep a close watch on Calvillo all night while still shifting focus to goal scoring leader, Luis Solignac who has six goals in 2022. Goalkeeper, Evan Newton, is a figure to watch in every match as he has kept six clean sheets on the year and is a tall task to beat if the Toros are not locked in offensively.
