ON TO THE NEXT: Forward Rhett Melnyk scored his first goal as a Saskatoon Blade in the team's 6-2 loss Wednesday against the Everett Silvertips at Angels of the Winds Arena.
The former captain of the Edmonton Oil Kings finally got the monkey off his back since being acquired by the Blades on Oct. 30th via trade. The Fort Saskatchewan, AB product has six points (1G, 5A) in 23 games this year.
It wasn't goalie Austin Elliott's night as he let in two goals on two shots. Rookie netminder replaced Elliott in the first period, and went on to save 26-of-29 shots. Gardner's record falls to 4-3-0-0.
The Blades drop to 0-2 on their U.S. road trip, and sit second in the Eastern Conference with a 15-8-0-0 record.
NEXT GAME: The Blades enjoy a day off Thursday before facing off against the reigning WHL Champion, Seattle Thunderbirds.
Puck drop is 4:00pm CT.
