Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club has announced their intention to bid on the 2020 Memorial Cup. The 2020 tournament will be the 102nd edition of the Memorial Cup.
"We feel that we are at a point in our progression as an organization that this is something that we could do and succeed at," said Hurricanes Board of Director President Doug Paisley. "This would be a great opportunity for our Community and think that something of this magnitude would benefit our City and our fans.
"We have confidence in our city, facility and our team and feel we're in a good position to be competitive, " added Paisley.
The Hurricanes have never hosted the Memorial Cup while having qualified for the tournament once in their history when they won the 1997 WHL Championship before falling in the Championship game to the host Hull Olympiques. The Lethbridge Broncos also appeared in the 1983 Memorial Cup in Portland.
