Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters ink another former minor league player by announcing the signing of 6'1'' Frank Meade of Colonia, NJ. Meade was a catcher at Rutgers University before being drafted after his junior year in the 2007 amateur draft by the Cincinnati Reds in the 24th round. Meade was said to have a strong arm behind the plate and hit for power during his time at Rutgers. He finished his college career in fifth place on the Rutgers career home run list with 26.

Meade made his professional debut that season in an assignment to the Billings Mustangs. He had one hit and a walk in his first professional game on June 24, 2007. His first professional home run came less than a month later against the Orem Owls. During the 2007 season as a mustang he appeared in 25 games and stepped up to the plate 71 times. Meade compiled an on-base percentage of .349 and a slugging percentage of .366.

Meade split the 2008 season between the Billings Mustangs and the Dayton Dragons of the Midwest League. While playing for the mustangs he put up a bigger slugging average at .467 and on-base percentage with .435. Meade was then moved up within the Reds organization to the Dragons, low-A class. While with the Dragons he struggled a bit only appearing in 3 games with 8 at-bats. His batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging average were all lowered to .125.

The Evansville Otters are members of the Frontier League 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season this summer. The Otters will begin their fifteenth season at 7:05 p.m. May 22 vs. Southern Illinois. Advertising and season-ticket information is available by calling (812) 435-8686.
