Saginaw Spirit News Release

(Saginaw, MI) The Ontario Hockey League announced today that Spirit d-man Patrick McNeill has been named the OHL Defenseman of the Month for December 2006. McNeill notched 4 goals and 10 assists in 9 games. He was plus-2 and had 6 PIM during the month.

"Patrick is one of the best, if not the best, defensemen in the league," stated Spirit General Manager and Head Coach Bob Mancini, "It's a well deserved honor."

McNeill has scored 15 goals and 23 assists in 34 games this season. He is plus-2 on the season with 24 PIM. The Strathroy, ON native was selected by the Washington Capitals in the fourth round (118th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. McNeill was selected to the 2006 OHL All Star game and the 2006 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge. He was invited to Team Canada's 2007 World Juniors Selection Camp. McNeill was also awarded the OHL Defenseman of the Month honor last season for February 2006.

The honor marks the second time a Spirit player has been recognized by the league this season; netminder Ryan Daniels was named OHL Goaltender of the Month in October.
