
OHL Names Performers of the Month for December

Toronto-The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Performers of the Month for December, 2006.
OHL Player of the Month - Evan Brophey, Plymouth Whalers Brophey was named the OHL's player of the month after leading the league in scoring during December with seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points in 11 games. The overage centre recorded at least a point in 10 out of the 11 games Plymouth played during the month, helping the team to a 9-0-0-2 record. Brophey had eight multi-point games, including a five-point game on December 17 in a 5-1 win over the Brampton Battalion. He also enjoyed back-to-back four-point performances, against Guelph on December 3 and London on December 7. Brophey, a third round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks, in 2005 also finished the month with a plus/minus rating of plus-10. The native of Kitchener is currently third in the OHL scoring race with 65 points in 37 games.
Defenceman of the Month - Patrick McNeill, Saginaw Spirit McNeill was named defenceman of the Month after leading all OHL defencemen with four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in nine games. McNeill a 19-year-old native of Strathroy recorded a point in eight out of the nine games in which he played during the month of December. He had four multi-point games including three-point performances on December 2 against London and on December 29 versus Windsor. McNeill, a 2005 draft pick of the Washington Capitals is currently fourth among OHL defencemen in scoring with 38 points in 34 games.
Goaltender of the Month - Andrew Perugini, Barrie Colts Perugini was named OHL goaltender of the month after posting a 7-2-0-0 record, along with a 2.19 goals against average and a .940 save percentage. Perugini's seven wins in December give him 25 on the season to lead all OHL goaltenders. He is also currently third in the league with an overall save percentage of .920. Perugini a native of King City was named as one of the three stars of the game in five contests last month. He has been solid between the pipes all season long for the Colts, leading them to first place overall in the OHL.
OHL Rookie of the Month - Steven Stamkos, Sarnia Sting Stamkos was named the OHL rookie of the month for November after scoring seven goals and adding eight assists for 15 points in nine games. The first overall pick in last summer's OHL Priority Selection, Stamkos had five multi-point games during December, including a four-point night against the Kitchener Rangers where he was in on all four of the Sting's goals scoring one himself and adding three assists. He also had a five-game goal scoring streak in December. The native of Unionville is currently third among all rookies in scoring with 52 points in 37 games.
