
McNeal, Scott Elevate Jam over D-Fenders

BAKERSFIELD, March 3, 2013 - Jerel McNeal (27 points, 8 assists, 5 steals) and Atlanta Hawks' assignee Mike Scott (27 points, 10 rebounds) had stellar performances for the Bakersfield Jam (24-11) in a 111-98 victory over the visiting Los Angeles D-Fenders (15-20) on Sunday.
The Jam jumped out to a 31-22 advantage to end the first and increased their lead to 14 points at halftime (57-43). In that first half, Bakersfield shot 51% from the field while holding Los Angeles to 40%. The Jam kept their strong execution and play in the third as they extended their lead to as many as 26 points and by as many as 19 in the fourth. Bakersfield out-rebounded Los Angeles 42-36 and held a slight advantage in points in the paint (52-46).
In addition to McNeal's and Scott's strong contributions, Damion James added a double-double of his own with 17 points and 13 rebounds while Renaldo Major had 14 points and three steals. Adam Koch, who started in place of injured Brian Butch, posted 11 points and six rebounds. All five starters for the Jam scored in double-figures.
The D-Fenders were led by Morris Almond who scored 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Elijah Millsap posted 21 points, nine rebounds and eight assists while Gary Flowers added 19 points and six rebounds. Lazar Hayward came off the bench to score 16 points for Los Angeles.
The Jam will stay in Bakersfield and battle the Texas Legends on Tuesday, March 5 at 7 p.m. PST at the Dignity Health Event Center.
