McKegg Taken in Third Round by Toronto

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League are proud to announce that forward Greg McKegg was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in Los Angeles Saturday afternoon.

Originally selected by the Otters with the second overall pick in the 2008 OHL Priority Selection, McKegg was picked up in the third round (62nd overall) by Toronto. He joins other OHL players such as London's Nazem Kadri, Windsor's Kenny Ryan and Owen Sound's Jesse Blacker in the Maple Leafs organization.

A native of St. Thomas, Ontario, McKegg completed an OHL All-Star year with the Otters in which he grabbed 85 points in 67 games, and improved over his rookie-year by 67 points, a league-best mark.

McKegg also represented Canada at the 2010 World Under-18 Championships, tallying a goal and adding seven assists at the tournament in Belarus.

At the Otters Summer Awards Banquet June 13, McKegg took home a team-best four awards. He won the Most Sportsmanlike Player award, the Most Improved Player award, the Sertz Family Scholastic Award and the Locastro-Bonini Three Stars Award.

The eighth annual Erie Otters Champions for Education Golf Tournament will be held Monday, August 30 at Lake Shore Country Club. The noon shotgun tournament offers golfers an opportunity to play a round with a member of the Otters (current or alumni) on one of Erie's most challenging and picturesque 18-hole courses. The benefactor of the Tournament is the Erie Otters Education Fund, which supports The Brad Boyes Scholarship, awarded annually to a local male high school athlete who excels on and off the playing field. The Fund also assists in the educational needs of former members of the Otters following their OHL careers. The tournament also supports numerous charities. Registration for the tourney is $150 per player and includes golf with cart, lunch, snacks and beverages on the course, dinner following golf, prizes and much, much more.
