McGuire Strong, Sobolewski Homers, But Fisher Cats Fall in 10

(Manchester, NH)--- Deck McGuire matched a career high with ten strikeouts and Mark Sobolewski homered and drove in three runs but New Britain rallied to edge the Fisher Cats 6-5 in 10 innings on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

The Rock Cats, trailing 5-2 going to the top of the ninth inning, scored three times in the frame to tie the game and won it on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch of Estarlin Los Santos in the top of the tenth inning.

McGuire had worked five scoreless innings before allowing a two-run homer to New Britain's Deibinson Romero, which cut the Fisher Cats lead to 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning. McGuire allowed six hits and he walked one, recording at least one strikeout in each of his innings.

The Fisher Cats (35-51) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Jake Marisnick led off the game with a double to left field, moved to third on a sacrifice by Ryan Goins, and scored on a single by Mark Sobolewski.

Sobolewski hit his 17th home run in the bottom of the third inning after Goins had doubled to make it 3-0 Fisher Cats.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, catcher Jack Murphy (3-for-4) led off with a double and Marisnick bunted him to third base. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Goins to make it 4-2.

Brad Glenn hit a pinch-hit double in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring Mike McDade, who had reached on an error for New Hampshire's final run.

With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, Chris Herrmann singled and when the ball scooted past the fielder, all three runners scored to tie the game. The Rock Cats won it in the tenth against Trystan Magnuson (0-1).

Shairon Martis started for New Britain (48-38), allowing four runs, three earned, in 6.1 innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out three. Bruce Pugh (2-0) worked two scoreless innings in relief for the win for the Rock Cats.

The Fisher Cats and Rock Cats continue the series with a twi-night doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 6:05pm. Each game will be seven innings. An Atlas Fireworks Show will follow the second game.
