Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles announced today that Ed McGrane and Erik Adams have signed contracts for the upcoming 2008-09 season; both players will be returning to the team for the 4th year in a row.
"The success of the Colorado Eagles has been built through showing loyalty to players who are assets both on and off the ice; both Ed and Erik have been catalysts in those regards," said President and General Manager Chris Stewart. "These two players are a great start for our new head coach and I'm sure Kevin McClelland will enjoy coaching them just as I did."
McGrane - the team's second-leading scorer last season (35-54-89) - set career highs in goals, assists, points and PIMs in losing out on the team's scoring title to Riley Nelson (37-54-91) in the season's final days. In 2007-08, the Hamilton, Ontario native had point streaks of eight, 10 and 11 games while leading the team in multi-point games (26 of his 64) and tying Captain Greg Pankewicz for the team lead in power-play (32) and special team points (36). His 305 shots ranked third in the entire CHL. McGrane was also the Eagles' leading scorer at home, registering 50 (21-29-50) of his 89 points at the Budweiser Events Center. He will head into the 2008-09 season as the franchise's fifth-leading scorer all time (68-108-176), trailing only the team's four original veterans.
Adams, known for his hard hits and solid two-way play, bounced back from a 2006-07 season full of injuries (he played in only 11 games) to put together a successful season in 2007-08. After missing the first two months of the season while still recovering from his previous injury, Adams played in 38 of the remaining 40 games, registering two goals, 16 assists and 32 PIMS. Fifteen of his 18 points came in Eagles' victories. The former Denver Pioneer got stronger as the season went on, scoring a career high six points (3-3-6) in the playoffs - including the game-winning goal in Game 2 against Texas in the Northern Conference Finals. He ended the playoffs tied for the team lead in power-play points with veterans Pankewicz and Nelson (2-3-5).
The defending Northern Conference champion Colorado Eagles open the 2008-09 season with a home game against the expansion Rapid City Rush on October 17. Tickets for all home dates at the Budweiser Events Center will go on sale September 20 and can be purchased through the Budweiser Events Center box office, www.ComcastTix.com, 1-877-544-TIXX (8499), the Eagles' Office in Water Valley or through any ComcastTIX Outlet.
