Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
Oklahoma City, OK â The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz announce they have been assigned Offensive Coordinator CHARLES "SPARKY" MCEWEN by the arenafootball2 league office.
McEwen brings an abundance of experience and a winning attitude to Oklahoma City. As Offensive Coordinator at Grand Rapids Rampage of the AFL, McEwen's offense was ranked in the top three every season. In 2002, the Rampage's offense ranked first in passing, first in total offense and second in scoring.
"He led the AFL in categories like passing, scoring and overall offense," Yard Dawgz General Manager Ben Buckland said. "To say that we are looking forward to having Sparky McEwen lead our offense would be a massive understatement."
On top of leading the Rampage's offense from 2001-2003, McEwen also took time to be the head coach at Creston High in Grand Rapids, MI. He led the high school team to five Elite Championship games and was even named the Coach of the Year in 1999.
"I am very excited to have Sparky McEwen as our Offensive Coordinator," Head Coach Gary Reasons. "As the previous Offensive Coordinator for the AFL's Rampage for the past three seasons, he brings a wealth of knowledge and success that should help our offensive production."
McEwen also has playing experience as the quarterback at Ferris State in Michigan and played in the AFL with the Rampage in 1998-1999. McEwen also has experience in scouting in the NFL, XFL and the Big Ten Conference.
Reasons is impressed by McEwen's understanding of arena football and is eager to have a coach of his stature in Oklahoma City.
"Sparky's offenses over the past three seasons has been ranked first, second or third in total offense and that production is an example of his successful attributes as a coach," said Reasons.
