DORADOS ASSIGNED MICHAEL DUNCAN AND DONTE WELLS

HIDALGO, TX: February 24, 2004 – The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 (af2) were assigned wide receiver / defensive backs Michael Duncan and Donte Wells to their 2004 roster today by the af2 offices.

"Michael was highly recommended from various teams throughout the Arena Football League," said Dorados Head Coach Gary Gussman. "He is an all around good athlete that possesses good cover skills and speed, plus he brings a year of af2 experience with him. As for Wells, I saw him at an Arena Football League open camp in Austin and I liked his athletic abilities. I liked his hands, the way he ran his routes and his cover skills."

Duncan, a 6'1" 190-pound wide receiver and defensive back joins the Dorados for his second season of af2 action. He played the 2002 season with the San Diego Riptide and accumulated 55 tackles, 29 of which were unassisted, in 10 games. The Oceanside, California native ranked second on the Riptide squad in interceptions with3 and also had 23 pass deflections and 2 forced fumbles. Duncan spent his college playing career at Palomar Junior College and Portland State University. At California State Champion Palomar Junior College, Duncan played the 1997 and 1998 seasons and had 20 tackles, 5 sacks and 5 interceptions as a sophomore. He had two interceptions and four tackles in the First Down Bowl to earn "Player of the Game" honors. The 24 year-old transferred to Portland State University in 1999 and appeared in 11 games. He finished the season ranked 10th on the team in tackles (31) and also had one interception. Duncan redshirted in 2000, and then returned for his senior season in 2001 and ranked fourth on the team with 71 tackles (37 unassisted, 34 assisted) in 11 games. In high school, Duncan was a two-year football and three-year track letterman at El Camino High School. He was named All-North County and All-Avocado League in football and track, and was also selected to the San Diego County All-Star Team.

Wells, a 25 year-old native of Dallas, Texas joins the Dorados for his first year of action in the af2. He played last season in the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) with the Austin Rockers. The 6'0" 205-pound wide receiver and defensive back split his college career at Corsicana's Navarro College and at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Wells played in 11 games with Midwestern State as a junior in 2000 and racked up 69 tackles (41 unassisted, 28 assisted). Eight of the tackles were for a loss and Wells also picked up a sack and an interception. The Dallas-Carter High School product played in 9 games his senior year in 2001 at Midwestern State and collected 43 tackles (22 unassisted, 21 assisted). He also had 3 sacks in his senior campaign.

Duncan and Wells mark the 14th and 15th players announced to the Dorados roster, joining Marcus Bradley (def. specialist), Gary Briggs (WR/DB) Will Burch (QB), Spencer Conley (OL./DL), Rico Gardner (WR/LB), Abel Gonzalez (QB) Preston Hartfield (WR/DB), Eric Houle (K), Raymond James (OL/DL), Brent McDonald (FB/LB), Jason Null (FB/LB), Manwell Talbert (WR/LB) and Anthony Terrell (WR/DB).
