INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis right-hander Daniel McCutchen has been honored as the International League's Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 10-16. The 26-year-old went 2-0 with 12 strikeouts and didn't allow a single run in 13.2 innings of work.

McCutchen beat Columbus twice during the week as he earned a win in Indianapolis on Monday, August 10 (7.2 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 SO) and a victory at Columbus on Saturday, August 15 (6.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO).

The victory on August 10 was McCutchen's longest outing of the season and the most innings he has tossed in a start since he threw a complete game shutout as a member of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees on July 5, 2008. His 13.2 consecutive scoreless innings currently ranks second behind RHP Ian Snell's 14.0 shut out frames for the longest scoreless streak for a Tribe starter this season.

Along with throwing two shut out starts during the week of August 10-16, McCutchen also ranked second in the IL with 13.2 innings pitched and third with 12 strikeouts. With the victory on August 15 the 26-year-old moved to 12-6 on the season putting him one victory behind in the IL lead for wins as Louisville's Justin Lehr collected 13 wins this season before his call-up to the Cincinnati Reds.

After beginning the season 2-3 McCutchen has gone 10-3 in his last 14 outings, including a streak of five straight victories (June 22 - July 20) the most in-a-row for a Tribe pitcher the season. The five consecutive wins was the best streak in his professional career and is his most consecutive outings with a win since he had four straight victories as a member of the High-A Tampa Yankees from June 14 through June 30, 2007

The right handed hurler is coming off a dominating month of July as he posted a 4-1 record and 2.10 ERA (7 ER in 30.0 IP), while striking out 17 and walking just two and so far in August has gone 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA (3 ER in 20.0 IP) and has struck out an astonishing 19 compared to just two walks.

The Texas native is currently in his second season at the Triple-A level after being selected by the New York Yankees in the 13th round of the 2006 draft. Last season he was 4-6 with a 3.58 ERA for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before he was traded from the New York Yankees organization on July 27 along with current Indians' outfielder Jose Tabata and current Pirates' starters Ross Ohlendorf and Jeff Karstens for former Pirates outfielder Xavier Nady and LHP Damaso Marte.

2009 marks McCutchen's first full season as a member of the Tribe as well as his first within the Pittsburgh organization. So far in 30 starts for Indianapolis the former Oklahoma Sooner has posted a 15-9 record with a 3.76 ERA (74 ER in 177.2 IP) and 140 strikeouts compared to 34 walks.

Daniel entered the 2009 season rated by Baseball America as the Pittsburgh Pirates' No. 9 prospect and as having the organization's "Best Control". He was also rated by the same publication as the No. 14 prospect in the New York Yankees Organization entering the 2008 season after he was named to the 2007 midseason and postseason Florida State League All-Star teams.

McCutchen is the second straight Tribe hurler to be named the International League's Pitcher of the Week as RHP Eric Hacker was given the honor for the week of August 3-10. McCutchen joins Hacker and current Pirates' outfielder Lastings Milledge (July 16-19) as the third Indians player to receive IL Player of the Week honors this season.
