
Knights Ride Out the Tide

FORT MILL, S.C. - August 17, 2009 - The Charlotte Knights held off a late Norfolk rally in the top of the 9th, winning 7-5 to take the series with the Tides. The Knights have won 5 out of their last 6 games.
Knights 2B Keith Ginter got things started right away in the bottom of the 1st for Charlotte hitting his first triple of the season, knocking in Miguel Negron and giving the Knights a 1-0 lead. The Knights would add two more runs on the board with a fielder's choice and Wilson Betemit's RBI single putting Charlotte up 3-0.
Knights OF Stefan Gartrell hit his first home run since joining the Knights from Double-A Birmingham in the bottom of 4th. Betemit hit his seventh home run of the season-a two-run blast-that pushed Charlotte farther ahead at 6-0. Norfolk attempted to rally in the top of the ninth but fell short scoring four runs and surrendering the win to Charlotte.
Charlotte got a strong pitching effort from lefty Wes Whisler (9-10, 3.82) who picked up his tenth win of the season. Whisler gave up eight hits, allowing only one run and striking out four Norfolk batters in seven innings of work.
LHP Chris George (1-1, 5.47) took the loss for Norfolk.
The Knights hit the road Tuesday for a seven game road trip to Durham then Gwinnett. Charlotte will return home on August 26th following on off-day for a three game series against Gwinnett. Game time is 7:15 PM.
