Brandon, Manitoba -- The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings have learned that veteran blueliner Matt McCue has received an invitation from the St. Louis Blues to attend their National Hockey League Training Camp this September.

A 20-year old product of Cochrane, Alberta, McCue was acquired by Brandon from the Chilliwack Bruins at last January's WHL Trade Deadline and wound up playing 34 games with the Wheat Kings, including all six playoff games against Lethbridge.

A former member of the Spokane Chiefs, McCue had eleven assists and 195 penalty minutes in 70 games this past season and in 186 career games, he has nine goals, 38 points and 330 minutes in penalties.

In Brandon, McCue is one of five overage players on the Wheat Kings' current roster, joining the likes of Andrew Clark, Matt Lowry, Daniel Bartek and Chad Erb.

Western Hockey League clubs are permitted to carry three 20-year old players.

In other Wheat Kings' news, the club has announced that there is a limited number of spots available - in the bantam age class - for next month's Hockey School at Westman Communications Group Place.

The 16th Annual Hockey School, coordinated by assistant coach Dwayne Gylywoychuk, runs from August 10th - 15th. The bantam division is for those players born in 1993, '94 and '95

Cost of the program is $295 plus GST (players) and $215 plus GST (goalkeepers).
