
McCarthy perfect through five, Hogs blank Rocks

WILMINGTON, DE â The Wilmington Blue Rocks fell victim to an outstanding pitching performance by Brandon McCarthy (6-0) in a 7-0 loss to the Winston-Salem Warthogs at Frawley Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The loss snaps Wilmington's season-high six game win streak.
McCarthy pitched five and one-third perfect innings until Adam Keim's infield single in the sixth. The 21-year-old struck out eight batters, walked none and allowed just four hits over eight total shutout frames.
Wilmington's Dusty Hughes (4-4) posted four and two-third shutout innings before a bases loaded triple by Josh Fields in the fifth, giving the Warthogs a 3-0 lead. The âHogs added another tally in the sixth off reliever Brad Stiles on a sacrifice fly RBI by Peanut Williams.
Fellow reliever Steve Chamberlain allowed another three runs in the ninth off a Casey Rogowski two-run triple and a sacrifice fly RBI by Fields, who finished with a career-high four RBI.
Travis Chapman, Mike Aviles, Bernard Stephens and Adam Keim collected the four hits for Wilmington in the loss. Dwayne Pollok hurled a 1-2-3 ninth inning to complete the shutout.
Tomorrow, the Rocks close out their four-game series with Winston-Salem as Wilmington right-hander Jonah Bayliss (5-5, 4.98) throws against fellow right-hander Sean Tracey (7-8, 3.27). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. at Frawley Stadium.
GAME NOTES: Bernard Stephens collected the lone extra-base hit for Wilmington, a leadoff triple in the eighth inning...Stephens has reached safely with a hit or walk in 23 straight games...Donnie Murphy went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts...Murphy has three hits in his last 48 at-bats and nine hits in his last 86 at-bats...The loss snapped Wilmington's season-high six-game winning streak, it was their longest since a seven-game win streak last season from August 12-18...Wilmington had won three straight games against Winston-Salem...Dusty Hughes had thrown 12.2 scoreless innings before Josh Fields lined his three-run triple in the fourth...Hughes had allowed just one run over his previous 19.2 innings.
