Anderson Champions News Release
Anderson, IN. Anderson, IN Mayor Kevin Smith met with the ownership group of the Anderson Champions professional basketball team that begins play in November. The team is looking to launch a successful season with the support of local citizens and a local fan base. The city currently has over 58,000 constituents which the Champions hop to turn into die hard fans.
"The success of our team is built on more than basketball," said Bobby Wilkerson, former IU and NBA star and an Anderson native. "We want to see players succeed in life. The team has pledged to support its players with a volunteer cast of former athletes who have life experiences off the court."
"The most exciting thing about what I see happening is the collective effort that the community is putting forth to make this a successful venture - being led by Mayor Smith - and we are most appreciative," added Jesse Wilkerson, co-owner of the team.
The season starts November 10th. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/andersonchampions or www.abalive.com or email jessewil@hotmail.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
