December 1, 2018 - SPHL (SPHL)
Macon Mayhem News Release
The Mayhem won their third consecutive game on Saturday night by a 4-1 decision, completing a road sweep over the Rail Yard Dawgs.
Both sides were limited in shot attempts in the early going, with a total of just 10 being taken in the first period. John Siemer was penalized for tripping at 8:01, but the Mayhem penalty killers promptly fought off the ensuing threat.
Siemer redeemed himself for the penalty with two assists in the second period. Just 3:29 into the middle frame, he set up Stathis Soumelidis for his second goal on the weekend. He also assisted on Derek Sutliffe's power play snipe twelve minutes later to double the Mayhem lead. Sutliffe's strike marked the Mayhem's third consecutive game with a power play goal.
Jordan Ruby had been making his second consecutive start, as he has been rock-solid against Roanoke all season. Through the first 40 minutes of play, Ruby was a perfect 15-of-15 in net.
Dakota Klecha added to Macon's lead 12:04 into the third period with assists from Justin Levac and Caleb Cameron. With just 84 seconds left in regulation, however, Ruby's shutout bid came to an end when Cody Dion scored his fourth goal of the season.
Klecha put the game out of reach with an empty-net tally 18:59 into the third period. Ruby earned his 8th victory of the season, stopping 24 of 25 Roanoke shots. Ben Myers, playing in his first game with the Rail Yard Dawgs, was charged with the regulation loss. He stopped 15 of 18 Mayhem shots in his debut.
The Mayhem will turn around and host Roanoke next weekend at the Macon Centreplex, with Disco/70's Night on Friday and Star Wars Night on Saturday.
