The Mudcats continue a seven game road trip today with a doubleheader at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington. Carolina is coming off an 8-2 loss to the Blue Rocks on Friday night and enter at just 1-3 in the current seven game road trip. The Mudcats are 16-24 this season and currently sit in third place behind the Salem Red Sox and Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Carolina is 12.0 games back of first, 6.5 games back of second and just 1.5 games ahead of last place Winston-Salem. The Blue Rocks are 12-28 this season and currently sit in last place in the Northern Division.
RHP Max Povse heads to the mound and will start for the Mudcats in game one of today's doubleheader in Wilmington. Povse is currently ranked 8th in the league in earned run average (2.98), 1st in WHIP (0.99) and 3rd in average against (.210). He also leads Carolina League starters in fewest baserunners/9ip ratio with an average of just 9.14 allowed this season. He last pitched on 5/15 against the Hillcats at Five County Stadium and finished with a season high eight strikeouts and four runs (two earned) allowed on six hits over five innings pitched. Povse last pitched against the Blue Rocks on 4/26 in Zebulon and held them to just two runs and five hits over a career high seven and 2/3 innings... RHP Ryan Clark gets the game two start later this afternoon. He enters at 0-3 and with a 6.08 ERA over seven starts and this season. Clark pitched into the seventh for the first time in his career (6.2ip, 5h, 3r, 1bb, 6so) his last time out on 5/16 against the Hillcats. He held Lynchburg scoreless through the fourth, but gave up a solo home run to Mike Papi in the fifth and two home runs in all while not earning a decision.
