
Max Ferdinand Named 2009-10 MISL Rookie Of The Year; All-Rookie Team Announced

The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today the five members of its 2009-10 MISL All-Rookie Team and that Baltimore Blast forward Max Ferdinand has been voted the 2009-10 MISL Rookie of the Year. The announcement follows a formal voting process that polled members of the media, as well as MISL coaches and general managers. Included in the All-Rookie team are two members of the Baltimore Blast, two Monterrey La RaZa players and one player from the Rockford Rampage. Voters were asked to select three forwards/midfielders and two defenders for this team; there were no rookie goalkeepers in the league this season.
Ferdinand, a speedy 23-year-old, recorded 14 goals and five assists (35 points) in 18 games this season. He tied to rank third on the Blast and ninth in the MISL in points and led the league with four game-winning goals. He also recorded two hat tricks on the season and scored at least one goal in eight games; he scored two or more goals in four games. Ferdinand, who signed with the Blast as a free agent prior to training camp, was named MISL Player of the Week on December 18.
In addition to Ferdinand, the Baltimore Blast also placed forward Rod Dyachenko on the All-Rookie Team. The Monterrey La RaZa, who will play Sunday against Milwaukee in the Championship Game, have defenders Angel Hernandez and Angel Garcia on the team while Rockford midfielder Andre Berenzen rounds out the All-Rookie Team.
Dyachenko recorded 19 points in 18 games this season, 17 of those points came in the last eight games of the regular season. Berenzen tallied three goals and two assist for eight points in 13 games this season for the Rampage. Monterrey's rookie defenders, Hernandez and Garcia, combined for 18 blocks this season. Hernandez saw action in 19 games, recording one three-point goal, two two-point goals and two assists for nine points while adding 10 blocks. Garcia tallied three two-point goals and two assists (eight points) and eight blocks in 17 games.
