Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks were denied the shutout victory by a reviewed call on an Arizona Sundogs goal late in the third period, but stellar performances all around still allowed the Mavericks to skate away with a 3-1 victory over the Sundogs in Game 4, tying the series at 2-2 and forcing Game 6 at the Independence Events Center, the "Toughest Building to Win In" according to the 2014 CHL 'Best of the Best' poll results.

Mavericks' goaltender Shane Owen made 40 saves in 60 minutes of play, halting the Sundogs' game plan of showering the Missouri net with endless shots on goal to get on the board.

Andrew Courtney was the first Maverick on the board for the third playoff game in a row, netting a strong power play goal at the 8:08 mark of the opening period, assisted by Eric Castonguay and Sebastien Thinel. The goal not only gave the Mavs the upper hand in the game, but also boosted Courtney up to a 19-game point streak and a 9-game goal streak. Courtney has tallied 3 power play goals in a row for the Mavs in this playoff series thus far.

Mike Ramsay doubled the Mavericks' efforts in the second period with another power play goal, assisted by Matt Stephenson and Sebastien Thinel to give Missouri a 2-0 lead over Arizona.

Leading with a strong 2-0 scoreboard in the final 2 minutes of the game, the Mavericks were holding strong with goaltender Shane Owen towards a shutout victory over the Sundogs. In a flurry of confusion, Sundogs forward Matt McCready let loose a shot at the Mavericks net that hit the crossbar of the Missouri goal and was redirected down into the crease, Owen deflected the puck back into play and the Mavericks moved the live puck down the ice towards the Sundogs goal. Initially the officials made a "no goal" call on McCready's attempt, despite the uproar of Sundogs fans and goal horn being sounded throughout Tim's Toyota Center. After a video review, referee Matthew Harding granted Arizona the debated goal to put the Sundogs on the board 2-1 behind the Mavericks.

Arizona pulled goaltender Andrew Engelage in the final 35 seconds of the game for the extra attacker, giving Mavericks rookie defenseman Anders Franzon the opportunity to score an unassisted empty netter with 27 seconds left on the clock to seal a 3-1 victory for Missouri in Game 4.

The Mavericks continue their best-of-seven series against the Sundogs on Saturday, April 12th at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, AZ at 9:05pm (CT).
