Quad City Mallards News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (October 27, 2015) - Kellen Jones piled up four points by scoring one goal and assisting on three others and Tyler Barnes scored once and added two assists as the host Missouri Mavericks (5-1-0) defeated the Quad City Mallards (3-2-1) 5-2 Tuesday night.
The Mavericks took control by building a 3-0 lead in the second period. Loic Leduc kick-started the Missouri onslaught just 27 seconds into the second by burying the game's first goal from the slot. The Mavericks stretched the lead with back-to-back power play goals. Barnes buried Jesse Root's cross-crease pass to double the gap at 11:50 of the second. At 14:24, Sebastien Sylvestre scored the third Maverick goal from the top of the right wing circle.
Tanner Eberle cut the Maverick advantage to 3-1 by tipping in a Mallard power play goal with only a minute and 47 seconds left in the second, but the Mavericks would reestablish a three goal lead early in the third period when Jones raced in on goal off the left wing and snapped the puck past Mallard netminder Brody Hoffman.
The Mallards were shorthanded when Zach Pochiro rifled in a rebound to make the score 4-2 at 11:08 of the third, but the Mallards would get no closer even after pulling Hoffman late in the third for an extra attacker. Instead Root capped off the victory for the Mavericks by scoring into an empty net with just five seconds remaining.
The Mallards return to action on the road against the Norfolk Admirals Friday night. The Mallards next play at home Wednesday evening, November 4 at 6:35 p.m. against the Mavericks. Fans can get four tickets to the November 4 tilt- and all remaining Mallards Wednesday night home games- for just $40.
