Mavericks Sign Two Forwards
December 14, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - Missouri Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman announced Wednesday the Central Hockey League (CHL) team has signed forwards Tyler Fletcher and Brandon Smith.
"These two players come in knowing their role and will give our team a needed injection of energy and physicality," said Hillman. "We have been playing harder as of late, but we are not yet at the level I expect. As we attempt to climb the ladder in the Central Hockey League, these are the exact style of players we need right now. Hopefully our guys will take note of the energy they bring to the ice."
Fletcher, 26 (4/2/85), has played most of this season with the Southern Professional Hockey League's Knoxville Ice Bears. The Calgary, Alberta native had five points on one goal and four assists with the Ice Bears and he played in one game with the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound forward is in his second professional season having split time in the CHL, SPHL and ECHL last season. Fletcher played three seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Superior before turning pro.
Smith, 25 (9/3/86), is also in his second professional season after playing his rookie season with the CHL's Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. In his rookie season, the Pepper Pike, Ohio native had 13 points on three goals and 10 assists in 55 games played. The 6-foot, 205-pound forward played in 13 games with the Fayetteville FireAntz this season and accounted for eight points (3-58) and seven penalty minutes before being signed by the Mavericks. Prior to turning pro, Smith played at Miami University (Ohio) for two seasons.
