Quad City Mallards News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. (December 14, 2011) - Jeff Hazelwood's second power play goal of the game broke a 2-2 tie at 13:34 of the third period and the host Arizona Sundogs- who scored all of their goals on the man advantage- went on to defeat the Quad City Mallards 3-2 Wednesday night. The loss halted the Mallards' six-game regulation unbeaten streak.

The Sundogs were up two men when Hazelwood tipped in what proved to be the game winner after the Mallards had battled back to tie the game earlier in the third. John Snowden banked the puck in off Arizona goaltender Scott Reid to knot score at two at the 3:33 mark of the final period.

The Sundogs had converted consecutive second period power plays to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead. David Nimmo- who also assisted on both of Hazelwood's goals- evened the score at one apiece by burying a rebound at 1:55 of the second. Hazelwood roofed the tie-breaker at 9:55.

The Mallards fell despite getting off to promising start. Jake Riddle steered home an Eric Giosa feed from the doorstep to give the Mallards 1-0 lead at 3:15 of the first period.

The Mallards, who will visit the Missouri Mavericks Friday night, next play on home ice Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. against the Mavericks.
