June 1, 2003 - Frontier League (FL)
Rockford RiverHawks News Release
On a beautiful Sunday evening at Marinelli Field the Mid-Missouri Mavericks defeated Rockford 5-4. The Mavericks took an early 3-0 lead but the RiverHawks clawed back and went ahead 4-3 after seven innings. Casey DeGroote hit a solo home run in the sixth and that was followed by a Mark Garner sacrifice fly that scored Kiley Vaughn. Vaughn then hit a two run double down the left field line in the seventh to put the RiverHawks ahead. Justin Dowdy (0-1) unfortunately could not hold the lead as Mid-Missouri scored twice in the eighth to take the lead for good. Rockford threatened in the bottom of the ninth but a failed sacrifice attempt and two strikeouts halted the Rockford comeback.
The RiverHawks will get back on the field tomorrow night in the series finale against Mid-Missouri. The first pitch will be thrown at 7:05 p.m. Be sure to get your limited edition RiverHawks mint tins brought to you by Candy2U.com.
