Kansas City Mavericks News Release
The Missouri Mavericks face the Arizona Sundogs TONIGHT at 7:05pm at the Independence Events Center in Game 6 of the opening round of the 2014 Central Hockey League Playoffs. The Mavs trail the Sundogs 3-2 and must win tonight to keep their playoff run alive and move on to an exciting Game 7 on April 16th at the Independence Events Center.
The Mavericks were leading the Sundogs 3-2 with 30 seconds left in Game 5 on Saturday night in Arizona, when Sundogs forward Justin Pender shot the puck through traffic to tie the game 3-3 and send the contest to overtime. The Mavericks fought the Sundogs through another 20 minutes of extra play without a victor as the game moved to a second 20 minute overtime period. It was eventually Johan Ryd of the Arizona Sundogs who would best goaltender Shane Owen for the game-winning goal, giving the Sundogs a 3-2 series edge over the Mavs. Tonight is do or die for Missouri, and the team is more than ready to take these next two games and move on to the next round.
Missouri brought in amateur Pete Massar for the Game 5 contest. Saying the amateur had an outstanding performance in his professional debut is an understatement, as Massar scored not one, but two goals for the Mavericks to take a 3-2 lead in the third period. Massar will be wearing number 29 for the Mavericks.
