Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks defeated in-state rival the St. Charles Chill 4-1 on the road Wednesday night. This is the Mavericks' fifth win over the Chill this season in the "Show Me Cup" series. Missouri leads the series 10 points to 3 points with tonight's victory.

Making his return debut from a 3-game suspension, defenseman Dave Pszenyczny wasted no time making his mark on the night, scoring an early power play goal for the Mavericks to open up the board 1-0 in the first 5 minutes of play. Eric Castonguay was quick to follow, taking a feed from Andrew Courtney to boost the Mavericks ahead of the Chill 2-0 before the first half of the period was over, and before the Chill had a chance to register even one shot on goal.

Then Evan Vossen, scoring for the second game in a row for the Mavericks, lit the lamp at the top of the second period to expand Missouri's lead 3-0 over their in-state rival. Defenseman Dean Moore tallied his first point as a Mavericks with an assist on Vossen's goal.

Shane Owen started the second period in goal after taking over for Erno Suomalainen at the tail end of the first period. Erno is reported to be O.K., but did not return to the Mavericks bench after leaving the ice surface in the first period.

The Chill finally found their way onto the board five minutes into the third period, but it would be their only goal of the night. Andrew Courtney sealed the Mavericks 4-1 victory with a final goal past the Chill net minder, assisted by Sebastien Thinel and Eric Castonguay, who all had a multiple point evening.

The Mavericks return home on Friday, January 31st to take on the Denver Cutthroats at 7:05pm. The first 750 fans age 14 and under will receive a USA youth giveaway jersey upon entrance to the Independence Events Center.
