Mavs Defeat Chill 4-1
January 29, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
St. Charles Chill News Release
St. Charles, Mo. - Cameron Cooper tallied his first goal with the Chill while Nick Schneider notched his first point for the home team but it was the Missouri Mavericks who jumped out to an early lead and got some great goaltending from Shane Owen en-route to a 4-1 at The Family Arena.
The Mavericks (25-11-2) took advantage of an early power play to take a 1-0 lead and stretched that lead to 2-0 just over three minutes later. St. Charles would pick up the offense at the end of the first and pick up where they left off in the second.
The Chill (9-28-5) surrendered a goal just over three minutes into the second period to make it 3-0 but poured on the pressure and controlled the action, generating several quality scoring opportunities and outshooting the Mavs 18-11. Despite the constant pressure and physical play in front of the net, St. Charles could not crack the scoreboard until the third.
Cameron Cooper deflected in a shot from Nick Schneider at the 5:19 mark of the third period, his first with St. Charles and Schneider's first point, to close the gap to 3-1 and get the crowd into the game. Missouri's Andrew Courtney would not let it last long however, scoring his 19th of the season to push the lead back to three goals at 4-1, the final margin of the game.
The Chill is back on home ice this weekend starting Friday at 7:05 when kids ages 12 and under get in for free. The game will feature a postgame specialty jersey auction to benefit Just Because We Care. Super Saturday starts at 7:05 with a football themed game on the eve of the Super Bowl and fans wearing their favorite football gear can get five dollars off a lower level ticket.
