Sundogs Power Past Rush

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs powered past the Rapid City Rush, 5-1 in front of a record breaking crowd of 5,218 Wednesday morning at Tim's Toyota Center during their first annual Kids Day Game.

The Sundogs have won three games in a row, improving their record 8-0-2 in their last 10 games. A pair of goals and an assist from Kevin Baker helped lead Arizona to their victory. Baker notched his first goal 12:39 into the opening frame while on the power play. David Rutherford and Jason Morgan picked up the assists. Closing out the first period the game was tied at one a piece when Sean Erickson scored for Rapid City with less than three minutes in the period.

Arizona's three, second period goals were registered in under seven minutes. Baker notched his second of the night, launching the puck past Rapid City's netminder, Keaton Hartigan less than 10 seconds into the game, proving to be the game winning goal. 1:18 later and Alex Tuckerman posted the Sundogs third goal with a quick shot to the net from Paul Mcilveen and Mark Isherwood. The Sundogs found themselves on a 4-on-3 power play after Mike Trebish and Sean Erickson were given roughing minors and Rapid City's Riley Weselowski was called for hooking.

The Sundogs finished strong posting their fifth goal against the Rush when Matt McCready found the net. Mcilveen collected three points and Trebish came out with a pair of assists.

Andrew Engelage earned the third star of the night, allowing only one goal and blocking 27 shots. Arizona outshot Rapid City 30-28 and was 2-5 on the power play and Rapid City was 0-5.

Both teams meet again Friday night, when they continue their three game series at Tim's Toyota Center at 7:05pm.
