Mavericks Fall Behind Brampton
January 5, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks dropped their second game in a row to the Brampton Beast on Saturday night, falling 4-7 to their new rivals.
The Beast came into Saturday's game in almost identical fashion as they began Friday night's matchup; with two quick goals early in the period to take a 2-0 lead. Scott Howes notched both of the early lamp-lighters for the team in the first ten minutes of the game.
Then the magic happened for the Mavericks, first with a goal by Dave Pszenyczny to get Missouri on the board, followed 36 seconds later by a breakaway goal from Eric Castonguay, and 20 seconds following that, Andrew Courtney launched another shot to the back of the Beast's net to take a 3-2 lead for the Mavericks with the third goal in only 56 seconds.
Brampton and Scott Howes opened the second period much like they did the first, with a strong ice presence and two goals in the first half of the second period. The Mavericks were able to overcome some dangerous penalty killing situations that had the team fighting back from a 3 on 5 disadvantage, keeping themselves in the game to tie 4-4 with a goal by Evan Vossen in the last two minutes of the period assisted by Sebastien Thinel and Eric Castonguay.
The game got away from the Mavericks in the third period, as Brampton skated away with a victory and three third period goals, including an unassisted Andrew Fournier goal, and two goals from Rob Collins to seal the 7-4 scoreboard.
The Mavericks play their next two games at home in a back-to-back weekend series against the Rapid City Rush on Friday, January 10th and Saturday, January 11th at the Independence Events Center. The first 1,500 fans through the doors on Friday night will receive a Mac bobble head! Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com and at the box office.
