Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas -The Allen Americans knocked off the Rapid City Rush for a second night in a row, to move to within four points of the top team in the Central Hockey League.
The Rush jumped on the board first in the opening period, after a turnover in their own end, Winston Day Chief made the Americans pay by putting one past Allen netminder Bryan Pitton to give the Rush a 1-0 lead. The Americans would respond nine minutes later when Alex Lavoie buried his 15th of the season from Johnathan Lessard and Mike Berube, at the 12:15 mark. Allen would grab their first lead three minutes later when Phil Fox scored his 10th of the season on a two-on-one break, with a great feed to the left side of the ice from Greger Hanson on the lone assist. The Americans extended the lead to two goals when Tyler Ludwig cashed in on the power play for his 9th of the season, and Allen built a 3-1 lead after twenty minutes of play.
After a scoreless second period, the two teams traded chances in the 3rd and the period remained scoreless until the 12:39 mark, when Americans forward Kale Kerbashian chipped one into the Rapid City net past Keaton Hartigan for his 12th of the season, and 29th point. It turned out to be the game winner as the Americans defeated Rapid City 4-3 to pick up their 19th win of the season.
"It was a hard fought victory," said Americans defenseman Trevor Hendrikx, following the 4-3 win. "We have this belief that were never out of game, and even when they tied it, we felt on the bench we would score the next goal. Things are really going well for us right now." The Americans have rolled off five straight wins to climb within one point of Missouri and four points behind Rapid for the top spot in the CHL.
The Americans next home game is next Friday night against Denver. Tickets are on sale at the Allen Event Center box office or online at www.allenamericans.com . Call (972) 912-1000 for more information.
